Air India, in an announcement made across its social media handles, has introduced a new feature called Fare Lock for its website and app.
Fare Lock Feature
This feature will now allow passengers to lock in the rate of their flights for 48 hours by paying a nominal non-refundable fee. It will come in handy for all the passengers who need more time to finalise their travel plans but wish to avoid increased or fluctuating flight fares.
The fee will depend on the route, but for now, Air India has announced the Fare Lock fee for domestic flights will stand around ₹500. For short-haul international flights, the fee will be ₹850, and ₹1500 for long-haul international flights. The service will be available for flights in ten days from the booking date. To lock the fare price, the passenger will be asked to select the Fare Lock option when they are booking tickets, and once they want to confirm the tickets, they can access the locked fare through the Manage Booking feature.

“This helps customers to plan their travels without having to worry about unexpected fluctuations in fares and availability for their preferred flight options. The feature is available for flight options at least 10 days away from the date of booking the service,” said the airline in its official statement.
T&C for Fare Lock
- By opting for the Fare Lock offering and paying the applicable fee, customers can reserve the chosen fare for a set duration.
- The Fare Lock offering is available for flights operated by Air India, subject to availability and as determined by Air India at its discretion.
- Air India reserves the right to restrict the availability of Fare Lock or replace this offer with another offer whether similar to this offer or not or withdraw it altogether.
- Fare Lock is applicable for Air India flights booked through the Air India website and app at least 10 days before departure.
- The fee for Fare Lock is determined based on the route and is applied per ticket.
- The fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against the fare. This locked fare does not include any add-on services which may be availed at the time of final booking.
- The Fare Lock fare will be secured for a period of 48 hours from the time of booking.
- To confirm the booking against the locked fare, customers must complete the booking and pay for the flight within the 48-hour hold period. We recommend confirming the booking at least 2 hrs prior to expiry time of the hold period.
- Failure to pay for the full fare within the stipulated period will result in automatic cancellation of the booking and the Fare Lock fee will not be refunded.
- No modifications can be made to the booking during the Fare Lock period. The Fare Lock option can be availed only on the specific fare option locked for the selected flight(s) and passenger(s). It cannot be transferred to any other fare option for the same flight.
- The offering does not apply to promotional prices, sale fares, special fares, group bookings, flights with codeshare partners, or interline bookings.
- The aim of the service is to secure the fare selected and it shall not be construed as an amount paid as security deposit for the conclusion of the contract of carriage.
