Park Hyatt Johannesburg Opens in South Africa’s Rosebank District
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the opening of Park Hyatt Johannesburg, marking the luxury brand’s third location in Africa. Located in Rosebank, a district renowned for its arts and cultural scene, the hotel provides a serene and thoughtfully designed environment featuring locally inspired art, architecture, and hospitality.
A Blend of Heritage and Modern Design
The hotel is set within a 1930s colonial-style building, initially influenced by architect Sir Herbert Baker. The renovation preserves key elements, such as arches, high ceilings, and wide verandahs, while introducing modern comforts. A central open-air courtyard with landscaped gardens, a heated outdoor pool, and a jacaranda tree provides a relaxing space for guests.
Local design and art are featured throughout the hotel, with each floor showcasing themes inspired by the region’s natural history and cultural landscapes.
Rooms and Suites
Park Hyatt Johannesburg features 31 guestrooms and suites, each equipped with king-size beds, marble bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, and curated South African artwork. Some rooms have private patios, and interior themes include Trees, Safari, Forest, and Explorer, celebrating the country’s diverse environments.
Dining
The hotel’s main restaurant, Room 32, highlights seasonal and locally sourced ingredients prepared over live-fire grills. A separate lounge offers cocktails, South African wines, and premium cigars. The wine list, curated by a sommelier, features regional selections that reflect South Africa’s diverse wine-growing regions.
Wellness and Recreation
A spa is set to open soon, offering treatments that incorporate local ingredients such as rooibos, marula oil, and baobab extract. These therapies draw on South African wellness traditions. Additional amenities include a fitness centre and an outdoor pool in the garden. Guests will also find curated items by Assouline, including books and design pieces, throughout the hotel.
Meetings and Events
The hotel offers an event space accommodating up to 60 guests, ideal for intimate meetings or private celebrations. The team provides support for personalized event planning.
