Progress Confirmed for North Bali International Airport Project
Plans for the North Bali International Airport have moved a step closer to reality. The proposed airport, to be built in Buleleng Regency, would be Bali’s second international airport and is expected to eventually exceed the capacity of Denpasar’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Erwanto Sad Adiatmoko, President Director of PT BIBU Panji Sakti, stated that construction could begin by the end of 2025, depending on final preparations by the Ministry of Transportation.
“We are waiting for the location permit and other groundwork to be finalized,” he said.
Indonesia’s Minister for Community Empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskander, confirmed the government’s backing for the project. He noted that both the president’s support and technical readiness are in place, and once the land is secured, the project will proceed.
Minister Iskander highlighted the airport’s role in driving economic development in North Bali. He said the airport is one of several initiatives aimed at supporting regional growth and helping Indonesia maintain its position in Southeast Asia’s development landscape.
President Prabowo Subianto has expressed strong support for the airport, reinforcing his commitment made during his campaign.
In a recent speech in Denpasar, he said, “I am committed to building North Bali International Airport,” and emphasized his goal of making Bali a central hub in the region.
According to initial plans, the airport will be designed to handle up to 32 million passengers annually. It will also include an aerocity development featuring infrastructure such as a power plant, retail areas, and lifestyle and entertainment facilities.
