Air India Announces 15% Cut In International Widebody Flights From 20 June To Mid-July

Air India has announced a temporary 15% reduction in its international services on widebody aircraft for the next few weeks. This decision will be effective immediately and will remain in place until June 20, with potential extensions through mid-July. The announcement follows the tragic crash of an Air India plane—a Boeing 787 Dreamliner—that went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad to London, landing at a medical college hostel.

The service cuts are a response to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the imposition of night curfews on airspaces in several European and East Asian countries, and the airline’s commitment to enhancing safety inspections. Additionally, these changes result from operational disruptions caused by careful assessments from engineering staff and pilots, leading to 83 cancellations over the past six days.

Air India has apologized to passengers affected by these changes and assures that they will be informed in advance. The airline will make every effort to accommodate travellers on alternative flights. Passengers will also have the option to reschedule their travel at no additional charge or receive a full refund, depending on their preference. The updated international flight schedule, which is set to take effect on June 20, 2025, will be announced shortly.
