With the opening of Waldorf Astoria New York and a curated global expansion of properties, Hilton’s brand enters a new chapter. Since the New York City property closed in 2017 for an unprecedented restoration, the Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts brand has undergone a thoughtful evolution, growing its global presence with 17 new openings and 33 additional properties in the pipeline, evolving from a heritage name into a worldwide symbol of modern luxury. Now spanning 36 properties across 18 countries, the brand’s momentum reflects a broader evolution in how high-end hospitality is defined and experienced. As Waldorf Astoria and Hilton continue to expand into the world’s most sought-after destinations, they quietly shape what the future of luxury looks and feels like – one extraordinary hotel at a time.

The return of Waldorf Astoria New York is not simply an opening – it is a renaissance. More than a hotel, it is the original standard-bearer of luxury, credited with introducing in-room telephones, modernizing 24-hour in-room dining, and the first female cooks in a hotel kitchen. Its legacy lives on through cultural icons like the Waldorf Salad and Peacock Alley, and through the generations of guests who have passed beneath its gilded ceilings. Now, this cornerstone of New York grandeur is set to reemerge as a flagship for a reimagined brand, one shaped by visionary design, world-class culinary experiences, and a deeply embedded sense of place.

“Waldorf Astoria New York is a beacon of timeless elegance – ‘The Greatest of Them All,’ as Conrad Hilton once described,” said Dino Michael, senior vice president and global head, Hilton Luxury Brands. “We take that north star – ‘The Greatest of Them All’ – and we like to manifest that ambition at every new hotel we open across the globe. In every Waldorf Astoria, we have tributes to the original. The intent is they inform our history, they give a guiding nod to the past, but also allow us to reinterpret them for the future.”

Waldorf Astoria New York has officially entered its opening season, welcoming guests to a new era of quiet grandeur and purposeful detail. The meticulous restoration, led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and legendary designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, preserves iconic spaces like the Grand Ballroom and Peacock Alley while introducing 375 of Manhattan’s most spacious guest rooms and suites. At the heart of the new experience, the reimagined Park Avenue Lobby is home to Yoshoku, a new kaiseki-inspired restaurant. These new offerings, along with the return of Peacock Alley and the signature American brasserie Lex Yard, will feature a cocktail program conceptualized by award-winning mixologist Jeff Bell. Above it all, 372 private residences designed by Jean-Louis Deniot offer a new benchmark for Park Avenue living, complete with the legendary Waldorf Astoria service.

Waldorf’s Brand Reimagined

Waldorf Astoria enters a new era, honoring its rich legacy while embracing a bold, global vision. Each new property is a distinct expression of place, blending local culture with the brand’s enduring commitment to timeless design and intuitive service.

Design serves as a bridge between eras, where heritage elements are reinterpreted through a modern lens. Signature hallmarks – like Peacock Alley and the Waldorf Astoria Clock – are thoughtfully evolved across the portfolio. At Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya, the clock’s design integrates the Mayan calendar paying a tribute to local heritage, while at Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique, the brand’s spirit is reflected in natural textures and architecture rooted in the pura vida lifestyle.

“Design is not just aesthetic, it’s storytelling,” said Michael. “Every detail is chosen to echo the character of the place while evoking the spirit of Waldorf Astoria.”

That philosophy carries through to the culinary experience, where partnerships with visionary chefs bring global influence and local authenticity to the table. Flagship destinations include the three Michelin-starred La Pergola by Heinz Beck in Rome, Spectrum by Sydney Schutte in Amsterdam (two stars), Sushi Nakazawa by Daisuke Nakazawa in Washington, D.C. (one star) and HOKKLO by Head Chef Guojin Du in Singapore (one star). Beyond traditional accolades, the portfolio features bold, chef-driven concepts including MURU by Mauro Colagreco in Doha, The Ledge by Dave Pynt in the Maldives, and The Bazaar by José Andrés in D.C. At Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, the newly opened Nobu – Hawaii’s first – offers its signature dishes alongside sweeping Pacific views in a Rockwell Group-designed space.

In Las Vegas, Hard Shake brings Japanese cocktail precision to the Strip, while Bernard’s in Chicago revives the speakeasy tradition with exacting drinks and warm sophistication. And at Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach, Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak sets a new standard for California coastal dining.
