The prohibition is a component of the government's attempt to restructure Bali tourism, one of Indonesia's top tourist destinations, to create jobs and improve quality while protecting the island's native culture. According to Hermin Esti, a senior official at the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime and Investment Affairs, the administration had decided to impose the ban, though the precise date was still up for debate.
