The mandatory travel insurance requirement was first implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic by the Bhutanese government to cover unforeseen emergencies, including medical expenses related to the pandemic. However, with the situation improving and the pandemic under control, the Bhutanese government has decided to lift this requirement, demonstrating their commitment to the safety and well-being of tourists.

The notification clearly states that tourists will no longer be required to possess travel insurance to process their visas. Instead, they can follow the regular visa application process. However, it is still highly recommended for tourists to have travel insurance as a precautionary measure in case of any unlikely emergencies associated with international travel.

This move is expected to attract more tourists to Bhutan, which will ultimately enhance the country’s tourism industry and further boost its economy. Bhutan has always been a popular destination for tourists, thanks to its unique culture, natural beauty, and commitment to preserving the environment. With the removal of the mandatory travel insurance requirement, it is expected that more tourists will be encouraged to visit this beautiful country and experience its rich heritage, sparking excitement for their upcoming trip. This decision will also provide a significant relief to tourists as they will not have to pay for additional travel insurance costs.
