Ethiopian Airlines Welcomes A350-1000 to Fleet

Ethiopian Airlines, the national flag carrier of Ethiopia and the largest Airbus operator in Africa has received its first A350-1000 from Airbus in Toulouse, France. This aircraft is the first A350-1000 to be operated by an airline based in Africa. The new addition will allow Ethiopian Airlines to enhance its premium services on important routes, including Washington D.C., London, Paris, and Frankfurt.

As of now, Ethiopian Airlines operates a fleet of 21 A350 Family aircraft. In the upcoming years, the airline plans to add 14 more A350 aircraft to its fleet, which will include 11 A350-900 models and three additional A350-1000 models. The A350-1000 aircraft will offer significant operational similarities with the A350-900 fleet, ensuring a smooth integration for shared pilots and mechanics, while also simplifying the training and maintenance processes.

The A350-1000 has a total capacity of 395 seats, which will boost Ethiopian Airlines’ passenger capacity and enhance the overall passenger experience, especially in the airline’s largest business class cabin. Additionally, Ethiopian Airlines will introduce Airbus’ new HBCplus satcom connectivity solution, providing seamless, high-speed connectivity from gate to gate.

The A350 is the most advanced and efficient widebody aircraft, leading in the long-range 300-410 seat category. Its clean-sheet design incorporates cutting-edge technologies and optimized aerodynamics, providing unmatched efficiency and comfort.

The A350’s Airspace cabin is the quietest twin-aisle aircraft in the sky, boasting a 50% reduction in noise footprint compared to previous generation models. It provides passengers and crew with the latest modern in-flight amenities for a more comfortable flying experience. Additionally, the aircraft’s new-generation engines and the use of lightweight materials contribute to its status as the most fuel-efficient large widebody aircraft available.

Like all Airbus aircraft, the A350 can operate using up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims for its aircraft to be fully compatible with 100% SAF by 2030. As of the end of September 2024, 60 customers worldwide had placed orders for 1,340 A350s, making it one of the most successful widebody aircraft in history.
