China Airlines Invests in A350-1000s

Taiwan’s China Airlines has finalized its firm order with Airbus for ten A350-1000 aircraft, confirming a commitment made in December 2024. These new A350-1000s are intended for long-haul flights to North America and Europe. They offer complete operational compatibility with the airline’s current A350-900 fleet, guaranteeing smooth integration and improved efficiency.

Kao Shing-Hwang, Chairman of China Airlines, said: “Our investment in the A350-1000 supports our international growth strategy and reflects our commitment to improving the travel experience for our passengers. We are confident that the A350-1000, with its superior range, fuel efficiency and comfort, will play a key role in transforming our long-haul operations.”

The A350 is the most advanced and efficient widebody aircraft in the world, establishing new benchmarks for intercontinental travel. It boasts the longest range of any current commercial airliner, capable of flying nonstop for up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres). Utilizing the latest generation of Rolls-Royce engines, it consumes 25% less fuel than earlier models, resulting in a comparable decrease in carbon emissions.

Like all Airbus aircraft, the A350 can already use up to 50% of the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Airbus aims for its planes to be capable of operating on 100% SAF by 2030.

The A350 Family has garnered over 1,360 orders from 60 customers globally. More than 640 aircraft are currently in service with 38 operators, mainly operating long-haul routes.

China Airlines utilizes different Airbus aircraft across its full-service network. Currently, the airline has a fleet of 15 A350-900s for long-haul flights to Europe and the US, as well as select routes to destinations in Asia and the Pacific. Additionally, it operates 15 A321neo and 16 A330s for regional services.
