Qatar Airways Resumes Operations After Temporary Suspension Amid Regional Conflict

Qatar Airways has officially resumed flight operations following the reopening of Qatari airspace, which had been temporarily closed due to escalating regional tensions. The airline confirmed the update via a Tuesday statement on X (formerly Twitter).

“Qatar Airways confirms the reinstatement of flights as airspace reopens in the State of Qatar. Our focus at this time is to help our passengers return home or reach their onwards journey safely and smoothly,” the airline stated.

To support the resumption of operations, the airline has deployed additional ground staff at Hamad International Airport in Doha to assist passengers and ensure a smooth return to scheduled services.

Background: Regional Conflict Triggers Airspace Closure

With airspace reopened and regional air traffic gradually returning to normal, the airline focuses on helping passengers resume their journeys.

The temporary suspension of Qatar Airways flights followed the closure of air traffic in the State of Qatar on Monday, amid rapidly escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

In its earlier advisory, the airline stated:

“As a result of the closure of air traffic movement in the State of Qatar, we can confirm the temporary suspension of Qatar Airways flights. We are working closely with government stakeholders and relevant authorities to support affected passengers. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority.”

Conflict Timeline: Escalation Across the Middle East

The strikes led to heightened security alerts across the Gulf, including the temporary shutdown of Qatari airspace.

The disruption came in the wake of a series of military escalations beginning on June 13, when Israel launched a major airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear facilities in an operation dubbed “Operation Rising Lion.”

In retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded with ‘Operation True Promise 3’, a large-scale drone and missile campaign targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production sites and energy infrastructure.

The situation worsened further when the United States launched “Operation Midnight Hammer”, a precision strike campaign on three key Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday morning.

Iran responded with multiple missile attacks targeting U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq, including Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the region. The strikes led to heightened security alerts across the Gulf, including the temporary shutdown of Qatari airspace.

Qatar Airways’ Response and Safety Measures

Qatar Airways coordinated closely with government agencies and aviation authorities throughout the disruption. Passenger safety was prioritized, and contingency measures were activated to support stranded or rerouted travellers.
