Performance Bonus for Air India Pilots Announced

Air India has announced an increase in employee salaries and the introduction of an annual performance bonus for pilots. The chief human resources officer (CHRO) of Air India, Ravindra Kumar GP, disclosed that employee salary increments will become effective from April 1, 2024, and performance bonuses will be disbursed for the fiscal year 2023-24, based on company and individual performance.

As part of the Vihaan.AI journey, Air India has introduced the contemporary annual performance appraisal process, Rise.AI, and transitioned to a simplified, market-competitive, and productivity-oriented compensation structure for employees. In 2023, only compensation and contract restructuring for legacy employees were undertaken.

According to reports, in addition to the increase in fixed pay for the fiscal year 2023-24, the airline has implemented an annual target performance bonus for its pilots, dependent on company and individual performance.

All About Air India’s Proposed Salary Hike

  • The monthly hike for pilots would vary from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000, a report by PTI quoted sources as saying.
  • The hike for pilots will depend on their experience and position.
  • As per the salary revision, the monthly fixed pay of first officers and captains will increase by Rs 5,000 each.
  • The monthly hike for commanders and senior commanders will be Rs 11,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively. However, the monthly fixed pay for junior first officers will not be hiked.
  • Pilots’ annual target performance bonus can be up to Rs 1.80 lakh and will be paid based on the company’s and the individual’s performance.
  • A junior first officer will receive an annual bonus of Rs 42,000, whereas first officers and commanders will receive Rs 60,000 annually.
  • The annual bonus for commanders will be Rs 1.32 lakh and Rs 1.80 lakh for senior commanders.
  • Salary increments for Air India employees will be effective from April 1, 2024. The FY 2023-24 bonus payouts will be based on the company and individual’s performance.
  • The airline has also introduced a component of an annual target performance bonus for its pilots based on the company’s and individual’s performance, which will be applicable from FY 2024-25.
  • Air India just restructured contracts and compensated legacy employees last year. The airline has around 18,000 employees.
