American Airlines Group has appointed Anthony (Tony) J. Richmond as Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Legal Officer, starting May 5. In this position, Richmond will be part of the airline’s senior leadership team and will report directly to CEO Robert Isom.

Richmond will head American’s Legal Affairs team and spearhead the airline's legal and labour relations strategy. His role encompasses supervising the company’s corporate governance, securities and corporate finance, commercial litigation, labour relations and employment issues, competition and antitrust matters, compliance, privacy, environmental concerns, and intellectual property issues.

Before joining American, Richmond was a partner in the Corporate Department at global law firm Latham & Watkins since 1996. With over thirty years of experience, he has counselled various clients, from startups to Fortune 500 companies, on innovative legal challenges and intricate, significant transactions. His expertise includes finance and securities matters affecting public and private entities.

Richmond is a pivotal figure in shaping the firm’s corporate practice and strategically guiding its direction at Latham & Watkins. He has held various vital leadership positions, including over ten years as chair of the Audit Committee, and currently chairs the Strategic Initiatives Committee, where he has been a member since 2015. Previously, Richmond co-chaired the Retail & Consumer Products Industry Group. He began his career at Deloitte as a certified public accountant (inactive status) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley.
