APPOINTMENT
Airbus has announced that Lars Wagner, currently CEO of MTU Aero Engines, will become the CEO of its Commercial Aircraft division starting January 1, 2026.
Lars Wagner will be succeeding Christian Scherer as the CEO and he will also join the Airbus Executive Committee as part of this transition.
To support a smooth handover, Lars is set to join Airbus in November 2025—two months before assuming full responsibility for the division. Christian Scherer will continue in his current role through the end of 2025, concluding a more than 40-year career with Airbus that included multiple senior leadership positions.
Lars Wagner brings extensive experience across the aerospace sector. Since January 2023, he has served as CEO of MTU Aero Engines AG, based in Munich. His career at MTU began in 2015, where he held key positions including Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President responsible for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) operations.
Prior to his tenure at MTU, Wagner held several management roles at Airbus, working at key sites in Bremen, Hamburg and Toulouse.
Lars holds a degree in mechanical and aeronautical engineering and an MBA, providing both technical and strategic expertise as he returns to Airbus.
His appointment marks a new phase for the company’s Commercial Aircraft business, with his dual background in aircraft manufacturing and engine production expected to inform his leadership approach amid ongoing developments in the global aviation sector.
