IndiGo has successfully shifted its operations temporarily from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, a recently renovated terminal at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. This effort involved relocating over 125 daily departures to Terminal 1 in a single day, bringing the total number of daily departures from Terminal 1 to over 200 flights a day. The airline had proactively informed its customers about the transition and ensured a smooth transfer by deploying an additional workforce at the airport to ensure customer convenience. While prior information was sent to the registered contact details, a well-channeled mechanism was built to ensure assistance to passengers to get them to the right terminal.

IndiGo’s Shift

Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said,”We appreciate our customers’ understanding and flexibility during this temporary phase. Also, we thank GMR and Delhi Airport teams for their collective efforts, helping us in making this smooth movement. Together, we are building the future of aviation in India and the joint efforts of all the stakeholders, in offering hassle-free service to our customers every day, is a testimony to that commitment.”

This relocation effort has resulted in IndiGo’s passenger traffic consolidating at Terminal 1, increasing from 15,000 to 40,000 passengers and flight operations from over 75 to over 200 flights. A total of 26 aircraft that had night halt at Terminal 2 were smoothly transferred to Terminal 1. This temporary shift comes ahead of a busy period at Delhi Airport, with the renovation of Terminal 2 along with upgradation of Instrumental Landing System (ILS) of runway number 10/28, which will enhance landings and take-offs during low
visibility conditions. Terminal 2 is expected to re-open for operations after summer ’25.
