Regent Kyoto Construction Begins
IHG Hotels & Resorts teamed up with GI Capital Management for a groundbreaking ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of construction for the highly anticipated Regent Kyoto. Scheduled to open in 2028, Regent Kyoto aims to embody the pinnacle of contemporary upper luxury, fusing classic heritage with design.
This property, centred around a garden originally designed over a century ago by landscape gardener Kumakichi Kato, has been reimagined for a new era, paying tribute to Kato’s lasting legacy. It will offer travellers exceptional luxury, top-notch facilities, and 83 rooms.
Nestled in Okazaki, one of the city’s most affluent neighborhoods known for its lavish villas, the hotel features Tsuruya, acclaimed as one of Kyoto’s premier dining spots. This ‘ryotei’ restaurant boasts a history spanning a century, originally established as lodgings and a dining venue for esteemed guests, including Japanese nobles, the imperial family, and dignitaries visiting the city. The Kyoto Imperial Palace, Heian Shrine, and Nanzen-ji Temple are just a short stroll away.
The guest rooms will showcase a contemporary take on the traditional ‘engawa’ zone by the window. Here, guests can relax and engage with the gardens and the natural environment beyond, fostering a blend of architecture and landscape. This fusion of architectural tradition and design will embody Regent’s principles of understated grandeur and elegance.
