Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SETU AAYOG, Government of Uttarakhand, to establish a hospitality skill-training centre in Nainital. The centre, part of IHCL’s ESG+ framework ‘Paathya’, aims to empower local youth with industry-relevant skills and promote inclusive growth in the tourism and hospitality.

Gaurav Pokhariyal, Executive Vice President, IHCL, said:

“Uttarakhand is a key tourism destination with immense potential for job creation. This skill centre will equip youth with practical training, contributing to regional development and India’s growing travel economy.”

The centre is being launched through a multi-stakeholder partnership involving:

  • SETU Aayog

  • Tata STRIVE (implementation partner)

  • Kumaun University (providing infrastructure)

  • Uttarakhand Skill Development Society

  • Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Uttarakhand

Over the next three years, the centre will train over 500 youth in Food and Beverage Service, Front Office, and Kitchen Operations. It will also offer hostel facilities and on-the-job internships, helping bridge the gap between education and employment.

Raj Shekhar Joshi, Vice Chairman, SETU Aayog, added:

“This initiative aligns industry and academia to boost employment and economic growth in Uttarakhand.”

Ameya Vanjari, COO, Tata STRIVE, said:

“This program will open career pathways for hill-region youth and create a ripple effect in local development.”

IHCL currently supports 53 skill centres across India under ‘Paathya’, to train 1,00,000 youth by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable skilling and future-ready talent development.
