Ahead of its opening, Waldorf Astoria New York has introduced new team member uniforms created by NO Uniform, a specialist design studio headed by renowned British couture designer Nicholas Oakwell. This collaboration represents NO Uniform’s first foray into the New York City hotel scene.
Renowned for transforming uniform design in the hospitality industry worldwide, NO Uniform offers a fashionable and functional approach that seamlessly aligns with the legacy and future of Waldorf Astoria New York. Drawing inspiration from the building’s art deco roots and the vibrant fashion landscape of the city, Oakwell’s designs merge classic sophistication with a modern flair.
The team members’ wardrobe collection draws inspiration from the elegance of the 1920s and 1930s, incorporating rich textures such as velvet and jacquard silk, reimagined with forward-thinking styling. The result is a distinctive, bespoke wardrobe that reflects both the architectural grandeur of Waldorf Astoria New York and the style of today’s global traveller.

"We are proud to partner with NO Uniform as we reintroduce Waldorf Astoria New York to the world. Nicholas Oakwell’s approach to design is aligned with our vision for the hotel—honoring our history while looking to the future, remaining committed to timeless elegance and modern hospitality,” said Luigi Romaniello, Managing Director, Waldorf Astoria New York.
“Our team members are at the heart of the guest experience, and their new wardrobe will not only support them in their roles but also embody the spirit and sophistication of Waldorf Astoria New York. This collection has been thoughtfully designed to instill pride and confidence in our team as they bring our renowned service to life."
Each item in this collection harmonizes style and functionality to accommodate the diverse roles of team members while reflecting the luxury and commitment to service that Waldorf Astoria New York is known for. Moreover, the exclusive team of Waldorf Astoria Residences New York, located above the hotel, will also wear NO Uniform wardrobes. Every uniform is crafted from sustainably sourced fabrics, prioritizing durability and comfort in the design process. The attention to detail also includes subtle references to the property’s rich history and sophisticated design, featuring tastefully engraved buttons and the hotel’s signature blue and silver color scheme.

“Waldorf Astoria New York is a symbol of occasion, and the team member wardrobes are designed to reflect just that,” says Nicholas Oakwell.
“We’ve created something that feels strong and modern, with a sense of fashion that resonates across generations.”
Wardrobe highlights include an innovative, monochromatic design perfect for a door person, featuring a long formal wool coat in the winter. A turtleneck sweater, tailored pants, and chic black sunglasses complete the look. During transitional seasons, a calf-length belted camel trench coat is available. As the weather gets warmer, a camel bomber jacket will be paired with a matching shirt and chinos designed for city living and inspired by the building's sandstone colour.
Upon entering the hotel and residences, guests are welcomed by the front-of-house team, whose attire exemplifies both professionalism and poise, reflecting the ethos of Waldorf Astoria New York. Female team members wear elegant silver silk blazers paired with waistcoat suits, designed for comfort and ease of movement during the day. Meanwhile, male team members are dressed in a refined Prince of Wales check three-piece suit, complete with a shirt and tie—looks that emphasize their role as polished ambassadors for the guest experience. This wardrobe not only exudes sophistication but also empowers team members to feel confident and unified as the initial point of contact for all guests.
The redesigned host attire for Waldorf Astoria New York’s iconic Peacock Alley emphasizes its reputation as the city's top cocktail bar. In the evening, male hosts will greet guests in striking peacock blue suits paired with soft velvet blazers and fringed scarves, while female hosts will don elegant floor-length sequin gowns. These uniforms radiate glamour and sophistication, transforming each guest's arrival into a celebratory occasion. During the day, female hosts will welcome guests in sleek silver silk tie-waist jumpsuits. The new outfits combine high fashion with practicality, allowing for smooth movement while upholding a refined look. They serve as a bold testament to tradition and elegance, crafted to enhance the guest experience and reflect the venue's sophistication.
