The Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel has undergone a glamorous transformation, ushering in Austria's capital's new era of urban hospitality and marking the brand’s official introduction to the country. Originally designed by renowned architect Baron Theophil Edvard von Hansen for the 1873 World’s Fair, this heritage palace now serves as the city’s premier urban luxury resort, where history and modernity engage in a continuous dialogue.
Originally built as a hotel, this historic landmark became a residential complex and a public administration building before returning to its roots as a hospitality venue in 2011. With over 150 years of history, it exemplifies Viennese Neo-Renaissance architecture. The palace showcases original marble floors, stucco ceilings, Ionic columns, and protected staircases, and many of its public areas display Hansen’s unique style.

The hotel blends historical grandeur with contemporary comfort and Asian-inspired hospitality. Located on the Ringstrasse in Vienna’s historic financial district, steps from the charming Servitenviertel, or Vienna’s ‘Little Paris’, Anantara Palais Hansen offers a unique atmosphere that combines Viennese soul with cosmopolitan elegance.
The hotel's 152 guest rooms and suites have been refreshed through renovations, creating an oasis adorned in neutral hues. A thoughtful mix of materials—smooth and textured surfaces, glossy and matte finishes—amplifies the natural light from the three inner courtyards. Luxurious features like marble bathrooms, Acqua di Parma toiletries, and triple-glazed windows ensure a peaceful night's sleep, complemented by 3.5-metre ceilings and large windows that enhance the sense of space. Some rooms and suites include balconies as a standout feature, while the most exclusive accommodations provide views of the tree-lined Ringstrasse.

The Presidential Suite, the largest in Vienna at 270 square metres, boasts seven French balconies and includes a lounge featuring a grand piano for private concerts, a dining area designed for gastronomic entertaining, and a wellness space highlighted by a marble bath beside a window. Upon request, the suite can be expanded to four bedrooms, totaling 408 square metres.
The hotel’s gastronomic landscape unfolds through three concepts. At Edvard, the Michelin-starred fine-dining destination, head chef Paul Gamauf’s avant-garde cuisine is presented in tasting sets that evolve with natural rhythms. His skilled hands turn impeccably sourced ingredients into sustainable and low-waste dishes and beverages.

Viennese coffee house culture meets high mixology at Theo’s Lounge & Bar, nestled in the former inner courtyard. By day, homemade cakes and pastries such as the iconic apple strudel take centre stage. As night falls, Theo’s transforms into a vibrant destination bar serving cocktails made with local brandies, seasonal ingredients and repurposed produce. Weekly events – from bar takeovers to live music nights – lend the refined venue a dynamic energy. Meanwhile, the newly launched Brasserie Sophie, named after Hansen’s wife, reimagines Austrian cuisine through a global lens and hosts monthly themed brunches.
The Anantara Spa, covering 800 square metres, provides a deep dive into the brand’s ‘East meets West’ wellness philosophy. It includes six treatment rooms, featuring a couples’ suite and a women-only section, as well as a Finnish sauna, a Hammam-style steam bath, and a sanarium. Alongside signature journeys and massages, wellness introduces advanced treatments like intense pulsed light therapy, body contouring, and luxury facials from Valmont and Elemis. Additionally, guests can exercise at the nearby fitness centre and enjoy scenic jogging paths along the Danube Canal and the Ringstrasse.
