Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, in collaboration with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), has been a long-standing sanctuary for 20 elephants rescued from urban development and illegal logging camps. To celebrate Thai National Elephant Day, the resort allowed these gentle giants to roam freely. The two-day event included participation from local children, artists, and guests, and aimed to emphasize the important role that elephants have always played in Thai society.

The festivities began with a spiritual ceremony and lunch hosted by the Anantara team for local school children. This was followed by the main event of the day – an elephant education workshop. After observing elephants in their natural habitat, the students participated in a demonstration led by an elephant osteopath, who showcased the techniques of elephant massage. This inspiring experience encouraged some students to consider careers as elephant caretakers or wildlife veterinarians.

Additionally, Anantara Golden Triangle organized a craft market featuring pachyderm-inspired souvenirs and handicrafts created by local artists. The highlight of the event was a buffet of the elephants’ favorite treats, beautifully arranged along the riverbank.

In today’s digital society, it’s easy to become disconnected from nature and our roots. This national day is not only a heartfelt gesture from our community towards the elephants, but also an opportunity to remind the younger generation about the way of life that has shaped Thai society for centuries. – Arnaud Béril, General Manager of Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp and Resort.
