The Oberoi Vindhyavilas Opens

The Oberoi Group has announced the opening of The Oberoi Vindhyavilas Wildlife Resort, Bandhavgarh—a sanctuary just a few minutes’ drive from Bandhavgarh National Park, one of India’s wildlife destinations, celebrated for its population of Royal Bengal Tigers. The resort has been featured in TIME Magazine USA’s ‘World’s Greatest Places of 2025,’ a recognition that underscores its design, guest experience, and location.

The Oberoi Vindhyavilas is designed to harmonize with its natural environment, drawing inspiration from the Vindhya mountain ranges, the architectural styles and artistic traditions of central India, and the enduring tribal cultures of the area. A standout feature is the entrance door— crafted by local artisans and adorned with tribal designs; it establishes the mood for an immersive experience. As you push through this wooden door, carved by Gond artisans, one of the region's primary indigenous communities, you enter into an expansive lounge and bar filled with natural light streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows, accented with pale local Katni stone. This inviting space feels like a beautifully appointed luxury home. The interiors showcase Gond's artworks, honouring the Indigenous cultures significantly influencing Bandhavgarh’s identity. The resort’s architectural style incorporates local craftsmanship and traditional materials, creating a space that honors the land and its inhabitants, especially the Gond and Baiga tribes, whose legacies are deeply embedded in the region’s cultural heritage.

Nestled in a beautiful 21-acre forest, The Oberoi Vindhyavilas boasts 19 tents and two Villas with private pools, ensuring guests' privacy and a connection to nature. The luxury tents feature tribal-inspired accents, while the tent canopies showcase elaborate motifs that reflect the rustic elegance of the surroundings, all through Oberoi’s hallmark of understated luxury. Thoughtful design elements enhance the experience, from Gond art murals in the bath area to representations of local wildlife hand-painted by celebrated Bandhavgarh artist Rakesh Prajapati. Sliding doors lead to a private floating deck and a garden, where fountain grass and frangipani flourish beneath a kachnar tree, providing an ideal backdrop for enjoying a morning cup of tea amidst the sounds of birdsong.

At the resort's core is a unique culinary experience spearheaded by Executive Chef Sachin Kumar. He brings extensive knowledge of traditional cuisine from his Royal Kitchen of Nagod training. The Dining Room celebrates the rich flavours of central India, featuring cherished heirloom recipes and the region's trademark culinary styles. Highlighting local ingredients, each dish is enhanced through careful techniques and elegant presentation. Additionally, popular international dishes like Neapolitan-style pizzas, grilled meats, and seafood are offered, freshly prepared in a wood-fired stone oven in the dining area.

Meals are carefully designed for various settings—enjoy high tea beneath a canopy, gather around a bonfire at the Tree Court, savor grills and barbecues by the lake at The Bush Kitchen, or experience intimate dining in the wood-lined spaces of the restaurant. The Bush Dining experience, set under a starry sky by the lake, creates an outdoor ambiance that captures rustic feasting. A highlight of the menu is the Royal Baghelkhand dinner—a luxurious dining experience inspired by the customs of the former Baghel kingdom, providing guests with a deep connection to the flavors and heritage of the region.

The Bar offers a stimulating selection of craft cocktails, local teas, and exquisite wines, all carefully curated to reflect the essence of the region's forests and spices.

Guests can participate in expertly guided game drives led by skilled naturalists trained by renowned Ratna Singh. These drives provide opportunities to see tigers, leopards, sloth bears, elephants, and more than 250 bird species in their natural habitats. The increasing tiger population in the park highlights the success of conservation efforts, ensuring that each safari is an exciting adventure.

Guests can explore the region’s rich cultural tapestry beyond the wilderness. Engaging with Sukhiram, a master Gond artist from the third generation, offers a glimpse into the complex storytelling traditions of this indigenous community. Strolling through Sarmaniya village and enjoying folk performances and storytelling beneath the stars provide guests with meaningful interactions with the area’s heritage.
