Tata Group's budget hospitality brand Ginger Hotels plans to double its presence in East and Northeast India over the next three to five years, according to a senior company official.

Ginger Hotels Spreading Its Spice in East & Northeast India

As per a senior company official, Tata Group's budget hospitality brand Ginger Hotels is planning to double its presence in East and Northeast India over the next three to five years. Currently, operated by Roots Corporation Ltd (RCL), a subsidiary of the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), Ginger Hotels has 11 properties in operation with 876 rooms in the East and Northeast regions. Additionally, seven more properties are in the pipeline, with an expected 605 rooms to be added. The brand aims to take advantage of the growth seen in India's smaller cities beyond the major metros.

IHCL Executive Vice President for New Business and Hotel Openings, Deepika Rao, who also serves as the chairperson of Roots Corporation, highlighted the company's expansion plans. She mentioned that the seven hotels in the pipeline in Patna, Kolkata, Asansol, Paradeep, Guwahati, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh will be operational within the next two to three years. Rao also emphasized the significance of the East and Northeast markets, noting that out of a total of 91 Ginger Hotels, 18 are in the East and Northeast region, which accounts for about 20 percent of its presence. She believes that the brand has the potential to double its footprint in this region in the medium term.

Rao also mentioned that the East and Northeast markets for Ginger are attracting guests from various segments, including corporates, small and medium enterprise business owners, leisure and family travellers, and sporting event attendees. Occupancies in this region are close to 70 percent across multiple segments.

In December 2018, Ginger introduced the lean luxe segment with a new brand identity to cater to diverse customer segments and price points. In the fiscal year 2024, the brand's total revenue stood at Rs 486 crore, marking a 34 percent increase from the previous fiscal year. Overall, Ginger Hotels aims to increase its total number of properties to 125 by 2025 from the current 91 hotels.
