Emirates officially returned to the Syrian capital, Damascus, reinstating the “City of Jasmine” on its expanding Middle East network. The airline aims to reconnect travellers with the city and destinations across six continents.
Flight EK913 arrived at 2:30 pm with 286 passengers and was welcomed with a water cannon salute at Damascus International Airport. A UAE delegation led by H.E. Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, was onboard along with Emirates executives who marked the occasion with a ceremony upon arrival.
The reception was attended by key Syrian officials, Emirati leadership, representatives from civil aviation authorities, and media.
Adil Al Ghaith, Emirates’ Senior Vice President Commercial Operations (Centre), stated, “Today marks a meaningful step as we reconnect Damascus to our network. Our return supports tourism, trade, and investment, contributing to Syria’s re-engagement with global markets. We thank the Syrian and UAE authorities for their cooperation in making this possible.”
Emirates flights to Damascus will operate three times a week, with plans to expand to daily services by October 26. The route is served by a Boeing 777-200LR offering Business and Economy Class options.
Customers can enjoy Emirates’ in-flight dining featuring regional specialities, including authentic Syrian ingredients. The airline’s entertainment system offers 6,500 channels, including 650 in Arabic with popular Syrian series and films.
Before operations were suspended in 2012, Emirates had served Damascus since 1988, carrying over 2.1 million passengers to and from Syria. The airline currently connects 14 Middle East and GCC cities with 194 flights per week.
