This initiative is expected to create jobs that will support the local economy in Western Australia and boost tourism in the state.
Qantas Expands International Routes for Aussies
Qantas has announced the addition of two new routes to its international network, with flights from Perth to Auckland and Johannesburg starting in December 2025. These new routes offer Australians more connections via the airline’s vast international and domestic network, which now spans over 100 destinations worldwide.
Now open for reservations, the new services significantly bolster the expansion of Qantas’ western hub, adding over 155,000 extra seats for travel to and from Perth each year. This initiative is expected to create jobs that will support the local economy in Western Australia and boost tourism in the state.
The Federal Government funds the Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry to support these flights. This financial support will enable Perth Airport to improve its staffing, equipment, and facilities, enhance border and biosecurity capabilities, and allow for an increase in international flight operations.
These routes will enhance international connectivity between New Zealand and South Africa through the Qantas network and its extensive global airline partnerships.

CEO Qantas International Cam Wallace: “We’re so excited to be launching two new international routes, unlocking more options and greater choice for all Australians to connect to the world through our growing network.
“By connecting Perth directly with Auckland and Johannesburg, we’re supporting the local economy by opening valuable inbound tourism opportunities for Western Australia, as well as generating new jobs for the state. These routes also enable further growth throughout Australia with connections across our domestic network.
“Our new Perth to Auckland route offers a convenient one-stop connection for West Australians to New York via Auckland on our popular QF3 service while the new direct flight to Johannesburg provides a vital connection for customers in Perth to visit popular cities like Cape Town through our partnership with Airlink.
“We would like to thank Perth Airport, Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry, and Australian Border Force in working together to make these new flights possible.”

Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove: “The launch of two new Qantas international services to Perth is great news for Western Australia.
“Perth is a dynamic, expanding hub with incredible growth opportunities and we remain focused on working with our airline partners to grow aviation connectivity to create more opportunities for Western Australia’s tourism industry and provide more options for Western Australians to travel.
“Creating additional capacity within Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 will allow Qantas to add or expand their services to Western Australia and is an important interim measure as we build new terminal facilities at Airport Central so Qantas can relocate in 2031.”
Further Enhancements To International Schedule
Qantas has confirmed that starting in October 2025, it will operate daily flights using its Boeing 787 Dreamliner between Brisbane and Los Angeles. This new service will notably enhance premium seat options for Queensland travellers, including introducing Premium Economy seating. Additionally, under the ongoing collaboration between American Airlines and Qantas, both airlines will implement seasonal adjustments to their Brisbane and Melbourne routes during the peak Australian summer season.
In December 2025 and January 2026, airlines will maintain daily 787 Dreamliner services connecting Brisbane and Los Angeles, with Qantas providing four flights weekly and American Airlines offering three flights weekly. During this timeframe, Qantas will also boost its Boeing 787 flights between Melbourne and Dallas to a daily schedule, while the Brisbane to Los Angeles route will resume daily operations starting February 2026.
As part of the Group’s dual-brand strategy, Jetstar will cease flying between Sydney and Honolulu after the last flight on Friday, 24 October 2025, with its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to be redeployed to other destinations in Asia. Qantas will subsequently operate between 5 and 6 services per week between Sydney and Honolulu, which remains popular amongst customers following the recent launch of its flights from Melbourne to the Hawaiian capital.
As previously stated, Qantas’ final A380 will restart operations, with aircraft set for daily flights between Sydney and Dallas-Fort Worth beginning in January 2026. Along the route, this will offer additional premium seating choices (First, Business, and Premium Economy).
