Chiang Mai Ranked Best City in Asia, No. 2 Globally in Travel + Leisure 2025 Awards
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that Chiang Mai has been ranked the No. 1 City in Asia in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025. The city also placed No. 2 globally, reflecting its continued appeal to international travellers. Bangkok secured No. 3 in Asia and No. 4 globally. Both cities are Hall of Fame honourees, recognized for consistently high rankings.
Chiang Mai led the list of Asia’s 15 Best Cities with a reader score of 91.94. Travellers highlighted its ancient temples, such as Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, night markets, mountain landscapes, and ethical elephant encounters.
Bangkok earned a reader score of 91.34, with travellers noting its cultural depth, food offerings, temples, street markets, and nightlife.
In the Best Islands in Asia category, Phuket ranked fourth with a score of 89.47, praised for its beaches and marine activities. Ko Samui followed in fifth place with a score of 89.31, recognized for its relaxed atmosphere and natural beauty.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said the recognition reflects Thailand’s diverse travel experiences.

The Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards are based on nearly 180,000 reader submissions and more than 657,000 votes, rating cities on sights, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and value.
