AI to Utilise Group’s Engineering Skills for Aircraft Maintenance

Air India Utilising Group’s Talent

A senior official of Air India has stated that the airline, owned by Tata Group, will be using the engineering skills of the already on-board engineers to complete its maintenance work. The news comes amid the airline facing various operational issues and questions being raised on its safety measures. According to The Times of India, the official also stated that Air India is “keen to lease aircraft, but the market is very tight, especially for wide-body planes.”

According to the official, the decision will help Air India do more “maintenance work under our own quality control”. Through the act, the group will restore old Boeing 787s and 777s to bring them up to quality standards. Air India CEO, Campbell Wilson, in a press conference, has stated that Air India will be “retrofitting more than 100 planes, including 40 wide-body planes, and has ordered around 25,000 aircraft seats as part of revamping the fleet”.

So far, the Air India group has four airlines under its umbrella – Air India, Air India Express, AIX Connect, and now Vistara. The group is also setting up a maintenance base in Bengaluru, Karnataka, which will be open for work by 2025.

The news brings hope to passengers, as in the last few weeks, Air India has seen at least four planes delayed or face operational issues.
