American Airlines Opens New Gates at DFW Airport as Terminal Expansion Progresses

American Airlines Expansion at DFW Airport Adds Nine New Gates
American Airlines and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) have opened a new pier at Terminal C, marking the latest phase of an ongoing programme to expand and modernize facilities at the airline’s main hub.
The newly opened Terminal C pier features nine electronic boarding gates and introduces updated passenger facilities, including additional seating areas, refreshed restrooms, new food and beverage outlets, and an improved terminal layout designed to enhance the customer experience.
The project was completed over a two-year period using modular construction methods, allowing much of the work to be carried out off-site before installation. The expansion includes four additional gates and the reconstruction of five existing gates, increasing operational capacity at one of DFW’s busiest terminals.

According to American Airlines, the new gates provide an early look at the wider transformation planned for Terminal C, which is set to undergo a complete redevelopment over the coming years.
Jim Moses, Senior Vice President of DFW Operations at American Airlines, said the project supports the airline’s long-term growth plans while improving facilities for passengers travelling through Dallas-Fort Worth.
The opening of the new pier coincides with the first phase of a larger reconstruction programme that will modernise Terminal C from check-in through to boarding areas. Planned upgrades include new security facilities, baggage systems, retail and dining options, passenger amenities and parking infrastructure.
Terminal C remains the busiest terminal operated by American Airlines at DFW, handling around 200 departures each day during the current summer schedule.
Amanda Zhang, Vice President of Corporate Real Estate at American Airlines, said the investment forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to support future growth at its Dallas-Fort Worth hub.
Chris McLaughlin, Chief Executive Officer of DFW Airport, said the expansion reflects ongoing efforts to increase airport capacity while improving the travel experience for passengers.
Alongside the infrastructure upgrades, American Airlines continues to introduce new technology at DFW. The airline has begun rolling out electronic boarding gates at the new Terminal C pier and is supporting initiatives to streamline security and customs processes for travellers.
Additional expansion projects are also underway across the airport. A similar pier extension at Terminal A is expected to open later this year, while the first phase of the new Terminal F is scheduled to open next year, adding further capacity to support future passenger growth.
