Star of the Seas Joins Royal Caribbean Fleet, Set for August Debut
Royal Caribbean has officially welcomed Star of the Seas, the second ship in its Icon Class, following nearly two years of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The handover marks a key milestone ahead of the ship’s August 2025 debut from Port Canaveral, Florida.
At a ceremony attended by over 1,250 crew and partners, Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty highlighted the ship as part of the company’s effort to evolve vacation experiences, supported by Meyer Turku’s engineering and design expertise.
Star of the Seas will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, including visits to destinations like Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas. The ship will feature eight neighbourhoods, including Thrill Island with its waterpark, Chill Island’s pool decks, and Surfside, which is designed for families with young children.
The vessel also features innovations such as the AquaDome, the Hideaway adults-only space, and fleet favourites including the Royal Promenade and Central Park. Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), Star of the Seas incorporates various environmental technologies contributing to Royal Caribbean Group’s 2035 net-zero cruise ship goal.
Following the introduction of Star of the Seas, the company plans to introduce Legend of the Seas in 2026, expanding the Icon Class. Royal Caribbean is also preparing new private beach destinations in the Bahamas, Mexico, and the South Pacific through 2027.
