Historically, aviation security management has prioritized adherence to laws and regulations. Yet, given the growing range and complexity of threats, it is crucial to embrace a proactive approach for identifying and mitigating security risks while fostering continuous improvement.

To meet these demands, IATA has launched a new certification program aimed at modernizing and optimizing aviation security management. This initiative seeks to proactively identify aviation security threats, establish preventative measures, and enhance the overall management of security practices. The maturity of aviation security management is assessed in three phases, with the goal of improving risk management and raising the industry’s overall security standards.

JAL has received praise for several reasons and is the first airline globally to earn the top certification available, “Operating (Level 2).” This certification will enhance customer and partner confidence in JAL’s commitment to aviation security.

Evaluation Points

Proactive Security Risk Management:

Effective risk management system is acknowledged for its proactive responses to new threats and regulatory changes instituted by authorities in different countries. This success is attributed to active management involvement, well-defined regulations, and clear responsibilities.

Continuous Improvement of Security Management:

The ongoing improvement of security standards, achieved by utilizing industry best practices and conducting comprehensive quality control reviews- including external and internal audits and assessments of security incidents- has received high commendation.

JAL will further promote security awareness among all employees and collaborate with IATA and other partners to enhance aviation security management, aiming to deliver even greater safety and assurance to its esteemed customers.
