The Conference will bring together representatives from national and local governments, international organizations, and the private sector to showcase a shared vision for tourism as a catalyst for rural upliftment and inclusive development. Centred on empowering local communities, it will showcase best practices and strategies designed to create enduring, positive change. Sessions will explore how equitable tourism can generate jobs, safeguard cultural and natural resources, and foster social inclusion, with particular emphasis on supporting women and youth. Topics under discussion include adequate policy framework, financing, market access, product development, and the links with agriculture and governance.

Inclusive Community Empowerment at the Forefront

One of the conference’s main themes will focus on the role of communities in promoting sustainable tourism development in rural areas. The event aims to encourage local participation in tourism planning and development, helping rural communities benefit economically while also respecting their cultural and environmental values. Special attention will be given to involving local communities in governance and decision-making processes to ensure that tourism benefits are equitably distributed.

Milestone Gathering for the Best Tourism Villages Network

The Second Annual Meeting of the Best Tourism Villages by the UN Tourism Network will be held during the upcoming conference. This event will provide members of the Best Tourism Villages Network with an opportunity to share experiences and discuss the Network’s progress. Participants will explore how this unique global hub of local destinations can enhance their work effectively.

Fostering Partnerships and Building a Sustainable Future

The conference will bring together rural tourism stakeholders from around the world, including representatives from UN agencies, financial institutions, community leaders, and businesses. Its goal is to strengthen partnerships for rural tourism. The event will provide a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices, ensuring that tourism promotes economic development while also protecting the cultural and environmental heritage that characterizes rural destinations.

The three-day event will include a range of impactful panels, keynote speeches, and fireside chats. It will conclude with a technical tour of Hoi An’s community-led tourism initiatives, showcasing how the town has effectively integrated tourism with local agricultural and cultural practices.
