Minor Hotels’ Roadmap to 850 Properties by 2027

Minor International and Royal Holdings Announce Joint Venture and Strategic Entry into Japan’s Luxury and Lifestyle Hotel Market

Minor Hotels is starting 2025 on a strong growth path, supported by a comprehensive strategy that anticipates the launch of nearly 300 new hotels in the next three years. This expansion sets the international hotel group on track to achieve the goal of 850 properties by the end of 2027, positioning it among the largest hotel chains globally.

Minor currently boasts over 560 properties and 81,000 rooms worldwide. Recent data highlights a three-year expansion plan featuring more than 285 new hotels and nearly 47,000 additional rooms, showcasing its ambitious global strategy and commitment to market diversification. Although over half of Minor’s existing properties are in Europe, the company aims to achieve a more balanced international presence by introducing over 100 locations in Asia, more than 60 in the Middle East and Africa, and 40 in Australia and New Zealand.

Minor Hotels also seeks to expand in several priority markets, particularly North America and North Asia. Morocco, Egypt, and Turkey have also been identified as key destinations. Meanwhile, momentum is accelerating in India, a priority market where it recently opened the Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur Hotel.

LEVERAGING THE STRENGTH OF A GLOBAL BRAND

Minor Hotels’ expansion is primarily driven by luxury and upscale segments, with luxury brands such as Anantara, Tivoli, and Elewana Collection making up one-third of the planned additions over the next three years. An additional third will focus on the premium segment, including NH Collection, Avani, and nhow. Furthermore, the group is investing significantly in renovating several luxury properties, mainly through extensive refurbishment at the Anantara Hotel in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Minor Hotels will optimize its brand architecture in 2025 as part of a new “corporate brand” strategy to refresh its image. This initiative includes launching two new hotel brands, enhancing the group’s reach and offering more opportunities for owners seeking unique options, particularly for brand conversion properties.

The expansion plan consists of 38% conversions and advanced developments (brownfield), with the rest dedicated to new projects, often known as greenfield.

Wellbeing remains a key strategic focus for Minor across its various brands, evidenced by recent launches like Layan Life by Anantara in Phuket. Minor plans to further develop hotel projects that embrace a comprehensive approach to well-being, integrating medical technology with local culture to enhance guest experiences.

“We remain committed to strategic growth across multiple regions, always looking to provide innovative hospitality experiences that deliver value to our owners and partners,” said Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels and CEO of Parent Group Minor International.

“Leveraging our expertise in experiential luxury, our evolving brand architecture, our asset right strategy and our focus on branded residence opportunities are the cornerstones of our ambitious plans, and we look forward to bringing them to life in the years ahead.”

FOCUS ON BRANDED RESIDENCES

Branded residences will play a crucial role in the group’s future. Projects featuring a residential component are expected in over a dozen countries.

In the late 1990s, the Group was a trailblazer in branded residences, exemplified by the Layan Residences by Anantara in Phuket, Thailand, well ahead of other operators entering this market. Minor Hotels aims to expedite its residential expansion in the resort and urban areas, exploring potential branded residence projects in key cities.

Anantara Ubud Bali Resort, one of Minor Hotels' most recent openings.

The recent launch of the Anantara Ubud Bali Resort and a planned residential project highlight the attractiveness of combining luxury hospitality with private ownership. Future residential developments in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa—confirmed in Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Oman, and Tanzania—will bolster Minor Hotels’ footprint in these regions.

The group has promising growth potential worldwide, particularly with residential developments for the Anantara and NH Collection brands in Europe and the Middle East.

This year promises to be exciting for Minor Hotels, with various new openings worldwide. A small selection of highlights includes:

Omar Romero, Chief Development and Luxury Officer of Minor Hotels

“As we chart new paths for global expansion, preserving the integrity of our brands remains paramount. We are committed to elevating our luxury portfolio while ensuring each brand’s unique identity delivers stays that are authentic experiences,” said Omar Romero, Chief Development and Luxury Officer of Minor Hotels.

“Our expansion plan reflects confidence in both established and emerging markets; it is based on the understanding that high brand recognition and extraordinary quality are fundamental to our success and to our promise to deliver exceptional value for both guests and owners.”

The latest growth plan reveals Minor Hotels’ bold strategy for expanding globally. The group’s asset-right approach is central to this vision, which skillfully balances owned, leased, managed, and franchised properties to foster sustainable and diversified growth. About 70% of the portfolio consists of owned or leased assets; however, the group aims to lower this proportion to 50% by 2027. Over 90% of the ongoing projects will be under hotel management agreements (HMAs) or franchises, positioning the group favourably to reach this target.
