Thai AirAsia Launches Direct Phuket–Medan Flights with Over 95% Load on Inaugural Service
Thai AirAsia has officially launched its direct route between Phuket, Thailand and Medan, Indonesia, marking a key step in the airline’s ongoing regional network expansion. The inaugural flight from Medan to Phuket arrived with a load factor exceeding 95%, reflecting strong travel interest between the two cities.
The arrival was welcomed with a ceremony at Phuket International Airport, held in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), airport officials, and the Indonesian Consulate in Songkhla. Passengers were greeted and received commemorative souvenirs on arrival.
Ms. Tansita Akrarittipirom, Head of Commercial at Thai AirAsia, said:

“This new route links two tourism-focused cities. The initial strong passenger load highlights the potential for continued demand. We see this connection supporting both tourism and the broader economy in Thailand and Indonesia.”
Mr. Arun Lilapantisitti, Phuket Station Manager for Thai AirAsia, added:
“This route supports Phuket’s role as an operational hub. It contributes to the local economy and tourism sector. Many of our Phuket-based staff are from surrounding communities and are proud to support this growth.”
