IHG Hotels & Resorts Surprises Rugby Superfan with Exclusive Lions Tour Experience
Thousands of fans are flocking to Australia for the Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Tour 2025, and IHG Hotels & Resorts, the Official Hotel Partner, is making the experience unforgettable. One lucky superfan, Lawrence Hanlen from Gibraltar, was in for a surprise when he arrived at InterContinental Sydney.
Expecting a standard airport transfer, Lawrence was greeted instead by a private transfer—and none other than Wallabies legend Michael Hooper driving him to the hotel. Along the way, Hooper shared personal rugby stories and local Sydney tips.
The surprises continued at the hotel. British & Irish Lions player Andrew Porter helped with Lawrence’s bags, while Tommy Freeman gave him a personalized check-in experience. To top it off, Finn Russell delivered a signed Lions jersey, tour ball, and custom bathrobe to Lawrence’s room.
Lawrence Hanlen, who has been following rugby for over 45 years, shared, “This was a dream come true. I’ve never experienced anything like this. It made my whole trip even more memorable.”
IHG Hotels & Resorts has been offering exclusive perks and experiences throughout the Tour, including Platinum tickets with access to the Captain’s Run, signed merchandise, and more. IHG One Rewards members have redeemed millions of points for unique experiences, including tickets to the Sydney Test match, which sold out in minutes.
The excitement continues with fan experiences, including pop-up activations at stadiums and IHG hotels like InterContinental Sydney and Crowne Plaza Melbourne during the Tour.

Matt Tripolone, Managing Director of IHG Hotels & Resorts, Australasia & Pacific, said, “As the Official Hotel Partner, we’re excited to offer unforgettable experiences for fans and guests, and we look forward to delivering more throughout the Tour.”
